Text colors

I am using 0.9.2.6 Vanilla and a user asked how to change the color of text in a message. I tried using BBcode and HTML since both of they extensions are enabled. The style seemed to rule over the code everytime. Has anyone else had this problem and was there a resolution? Thanks
