I would suggest the ampersand needs to be & because &A is not valid token...perhaps.

p.s. please don't winge. If the haven't answered it is becuase they don't know. the answer.

    grep is your friend.

If you look at the source the data seems to be there, is it a problem with the character encoding?

  • edited March 2012

Just like to add to the discussion if I may, in case it helps.

An RSS feed for one of my forum categories, renamed "English, European & World Football" was blank like the OP's was.

The category URL didn't have the ampersand, it ended "english-european-football" (the previous title). Changing the category URL didn't help.

However, I changed the category's title replacing '&' with 'and', and this resolved the problem. I didn't check the feed in the W3 validator though I first came across the issue when TweetFeed wouldn't parse the RSS url, but this thread gave me the idea to alter it and it worked.

Noting this just in case there's a bug with the way Vanilla puts '&' into RSS, or alternatively if RSS doesn't like it in any way.

the correct thing to put is & not &

& produces ampersand. & indicates you are about to start a special character.

    grep is your friend.

  • Putting it in a category title, I assumed it would change it to & but it's ideal to know the correct way. If I was putting it in html i'd have used & and not a plain &

I have a similar problem, I have not installed any rss plugins as there is an Rss icon on bitter sweet theme, so I presume that this is built into Vanilla 2.1.6 as it was on Facebook Theme on 2.0.18.8. None of them work I am not that concerned with 2.0.18.8 as I intend using 2.1.6 in the future.
Click the icon and I get this --------- http://isaanexpats.services-thai.com/categories/Latest/feed.rss ----------------

I thought it meant in the code: I have taken them all out and all "/ " " - " + " still get an error but a different one. This page contains the following errors:

    here is a clue!

what do you do when you try to debug a problem?

I think I mentioned this a number of times to you and so has everyone else.

begins with change to default theme, disable all plugins, and test.

I suspect it is your rss feed widgets.

    Tested it with: http://validator.w3.org/

I have turned off everything with a plugins related to "feed"
Tested it with: http://validator.w3.org/ which gives 3 output errors, in line 10 in what file i don't know:

Error Line 10, Column 449: general entity "nbsp" not defined and no default entity
    …="vertical-align:middle;" border="0"> View Expats Life News's profile</s…

This is usually a cascading error caused by a an undefined entity reference or use of an unencoded ampersand (&) in an URL or body text. See the previous message for further details.

I would like to say i solved it, but i have not: but my rss feeds are now working. I put follow me, linkedin and Facebook links in pockets above content there they cause the rss feeds not to work, with the above errors. Put them in the top of the side panel and all is ok. Also I use feed.mikle.com to put feed movement on the page and the same in side panel ok in above content you get an error. I can't see anything similar in the code. Yet i can put Agoda Ad in a pocket above content and it's ok.
weird and wonderful, maybe this will help someone same as the "& and and" did.
