A few Feature Requests ...

edited March 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hi Everyone,

I know I'm rehashing a few things here, but bear with me. I'm more than willing to entertain extensions or other discussions, but I'd like to post these here, in a new discussion, as a vote toward their inclusion in future releases.

Had I more free time, I'd implement one or two of these myself and submit them to the Lussumo team for inclusion, but I'm spread a bit too thin as it is.

1. Cache icons and avatars locally. Currently, the users are prompted to enter URLs to use for their avatars. I'd like to see functionality that pulls that image and stores it locally. This is also a good opportunity to implement an "Upload Image" function.

2. Email notification. Allow users to "subscribe" to individual discussions and receive notifications when it's updated. If RSS feeds are on a per-discussion basis, that may alleviate the need for this. I haven't had an opportunity to play w/ the latest beta releases.

3. Mass email functionality. As an admin for a small forum, I can query the DB and get a list of all the email addresses pretty easily, then use a global search+replace function to create a "To: " line for my mailer, but I'd love to be able to login and send an announcement to all my users from within Vanilla. If nothing else, a CSV export of the user table would be handy and would save me from exporting raw SQL data.

    1. We have that. It's an extension.

2 - 3. I think people are working on that.
  • I would like to make a shamless plug for a site that I will have up and running in a week or so (depending on how busy regular work will be) that will tackle #1.
  • 2. RSS feeds for specific discussions are available in Vanilla 1.0, which will be released in a couple weeks. *crosses fingers*
