Can I make it look like a traditional forum?

edited March 2012 in Vanilla 2.0 - 2.8

I am brand new to Vanilla and I have been looking around everywhere for the answer and can't find a solid one. Can I make this look like a traditional discussion forum? Something like a phpBB or vBulletin, etc? I think the visitors to my site will find it a little difficult to adjust to this style, so I wanted to keep it as "normal" as possible. Thanks!

  • Explain more.

Aside from the fact, its like going to BMW and saying, make it look like a MERC perform like a PORSCHE and as frugal as a LADA.

what do you call normal ?

  • I'm sorry. I thought phpBB or vBulletin gave a good enough example of the look I am looking for. Pretty much show all of the categories on the front and have the threads inside of that. On the front it will show the categories with the latest thread, latest person to comment on that, number of posts, etc. Something like this look here: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum.php

  • You can do that with vanilla. Have you played with it yet?

  • I have been playing around with it but can't seem to get it to look like the URL I posted above (doesn't need to be exact obviously, but the general look and feel). Any ideas/suggestions/help you can give? Thanks!

  • it depend what you mean.

you can have root categories as heading, I created a more flexible plugin called category headings

which allows you to set any category as a heading and lock it.

Here is an example of a theme with retro table look:
    http://vanillaforums.org/addon/traditionalchocolate-theme

I haven't used it, but it say it should be used with is partnered plugin.

    grep is your friend.

  • Thanks! That retro table look looks to be something near what I am hoping for, however, unfortunately, the dark theme is not something I can use!

  • you change it, use the custom.css

    grep is your friend.
