Comments Feature

edited March 2012 in Vanilla 2.0 - 2.8

Hi,

I would like to know how can I enable (and insert) on my pages the "Leave a comment" feature, like the one that is present at the end of the post on this bage: http://vanillaforums.com/blog/news/thinking-of-migrating-your-vbulletin-or-phpbb-forum-to-vanilla/

  • You want comments on forum pages ?

  • if possible, yes.

For example, we will be launching a news site. Each news will have a "leave a comment box".

Best scenario: the comment to a specific news would open a new discussion on the forum, quoting the news. All comments to that news would be added to this discussion. Also, all comments about this news would show bellow the "leave a comment box", on the news page.

Second best scenario: the comment to a specific news would NOT open a new discussion on the forum. However, all comments about this news STILL would show bellow the "leave a comment box", on the news page.

  • So you want a blog that acts as a forum and a foum that acts as a blog ?

Doesnt that kinda sound arse about face?

Why not display latest comments from a specific thread outside of a forum, and then add a button to repky, which takes you to the thread ... Or get a blog lol which does what you want.. .?

Blog we just created for a client ...

Site still in dev, but if you goto home page we also post blog snippets fom the blog on main page.

  • Thanks. Your site looks great.

We are a news site, and the blog model doesn't work for us.

The problem with our website is that we have our site done on newscoop. Here is a preview: newscoop.ultimoinstante.com.br (it is still under development). Here is an article page example: http://newscoop.ultimoinstante.com.br/pt/noticias/tecnologia_smartphones/105/Nokia-lança-smartphone-a-US$-499-nos-EUA-nokia-smartphone-eua.htm

We already have a news site with more than 50.000 news in our database. Therefore, we need a site that can handle this and our traffic, and this is why we are migrating to newscoop.

This is the live site today: www.ultimoinstante.com.br where we use Facebook for comments, but we want to develop this comment/forum relationship using vanilla to incite discussions in our website, to make them loyal and always coming back.

I know that vanilla provides the "leave a comment box" on their paid service plans. I would like to know if this feature is on the downloaded version, because I couldn't find, and I couldn't locate any plugin that does this.

  • Ok, so basically you want to get rid of facebook comments and make the site more dynamic and interactive ?

Are your NEWS items, posted by a person .. or aggregated ?

  • Posted by people. We have a team of editors. And we will also add a reuters feed that we just hired.

I just found on this thread that someone was able to do it in wordpress: http://vanillaforums.org/discussion/19545/wordpress-comment-as-vanilla-member#Item_0

  • Hmm ok, will leave you on the other thread. Good Luck :)
