How to let users upload images?

I would like to know if there is a way to allow users to upload iamges to thier post. I know that currently you can add images, but they require to be uploaded somehere else and you can only add the image url, but is there a way/plugin that can be used to allow the user to upload an image to the post.
The only way I can think of is using the fileupload plugin?

there is no add-on right now that does what you request from what I can see. Looks like a new add-on project
