I like it
I think it is less cluttered, minimal means business.
Aslo I bet there is some logic behind it much about branding is counter intuitive.
It is not trying too hard, and reflect vanilla's core ethos to be lean, but adaptable.
It should reflect vanilla not tutu fruity.
What matters on the landing page is the communication. And the graphics are helping that.

Good tag line too.
I wouldn't be surprised if the paid consultancy for that, or someone on the team knows about communication and branding.
Serious.

Totally disagree.
Evolved, hmm showing mobile devices, yet it isnt responsive. 9 colours , div misalignment, inconsisent font usage, the page doesnt engage.
The slider is like five years old, the green ticks are from late 90's, the star motif.. When zoomed coud be done better in paint.

Im being serious, x00. I know your a clever guy, and have a dry considered wit. But i really really think its poor design.

Think of it this way, people are googling from forums, they want something lean and adaptable and open source. Look at the other landing pages for forums.
This is the sort of page that would work for developer/web masters, and people wanted to set a forum easily with he hosted solution.
It is not trying to blind them with science, but if covers the key points. You eye is draw to the information quick. that is what matters.
They need to make sure it works on mobiles and cross browser, and I would change a few margin width slightly, but other than that a pro job.
It is hard to make something look effortless.
I think they didn't mention transportable, but too many adjectives give the wrong impression too.

I think one issue is the bottom content hanging of the edge, however it sort of teases you, so I'm on the fence on that one.

For a brand, which i totally respect. With over 500,000 clients ... Nup dont work for me, especially as each section has a different design, landing page , blog , this forum. No consistency, which dilutes brand awareness.
I develop for Zurb, as a freelancer, not for a while i admit. But thats due to non vanilla and in house projects, but seemless and streamlined it isnt.
To own a page you must present clean eye catching, nt gimmicky but fluid and scaleable identifiabke ui. This page needs tweaking, and it needs to be done carefully. Layout is fine, it is immediate and clean. But lacks polish.

Well I agree with you there, but considering the landing page alone I think they got the right idea, especially for the open source .org section.
Open source pages are often deliberately naive in style.

True. Was looking at their job board.. The commute would be a bitch
I wonder if Todd / Lincoln would allow me to make a version.... Purely self indulgent to see what another perspective could be.

pale coloured background often look dirty like they do on this forum, especially when there is multiple bistre.
I think it would look better an represent this side of the business better if it was simpler.

I thought it was over 500,000

I guess they are talking about their hosted forums.
edit actually that is probably a bit unrealistic, otherwise they would be raking it in.

Not sure if its a typo...
Must be hard building a business around a open src projectand keeping all plates spinning.

I dont have anything pertinent to add here... but i did want to say thos was an interesting read. I have my thoughts on some of the new ui decisions. Some things i like, others i think detract from the experience. But i'm going to reserve those thoughts for another time because i believe the core team is still gowing through some redesign and i'd rather just see where it ends up.
Overall, polish is something that every site could use more of. Scale, balance and direction are key in my mind... i spend a fair amount on time on mobile in both phone and tablet formats... it may be good to spend a little more time getting that tight.
