  • Crap, did we never get around to building this?
  • Nope.

I think features like branching and merging discussions are absolutely things that should not be in the core. They are for people who are extremely nitpicky about the organization of their discussions. I've never had cause to have such features in any of the forums I've ever written or administered. Furthermore, IMHO, merging this discussion with another would render the discussion totally confusing as comments become intermingled, and peoples replies to one another are lost in the shuffle.

But hey, that's what add-ons are for. If you want it, feel free to make it happen. I'll even help if you need...

    Bump
Anything new about this extension idea?

It would be really useful, for example to split a sticky discussion where people are supposed to make only one comment to introduce themselves, but have made several of them to greet each others.
  • I have to say, that I have been merging and splitting discussions in my mysql database and it's driving me nuts. Having the ability to take a comment and assign it into a new discussion would be an invaluable feature. While I love Vanilla, my one real issue with it, is the seeming lack of advanced administrator support. * Having the ability to move posts. * Having the ability to merge discussions. * Upgrading users account status in a batch mode. While I understand the need to keep it simple. I think these features are intrinsic to Vanilla's usability. PS - Mark you rock.
