How to add a sidebar's custom box?

Title is quite selfexplanatory: I'd like to add a box like "Categories", "Popular Tags", within some contents.
Is it possible?

    Dashboard > Messages >

    choose Page : Position etc

    In the messages box, you could add html code, using div classes etc etc even youtube vids..

    Simple as

    Yes look at some plugins and themes and see how they do it.

    easiest way is to edit the theme, but as peregrine advise it is better to create a plugin.

    You can do this via dashboard. No need for additional plugin, but as the guys said a plugin or theme edit is better to instantiate code logic.
