Threaded view of the discussions
I'm looking at long threads like this one http://vanillaforums.org/discussion/18780/vanilla-tutorialdocumental-site and I notice that the replies are displayed as a flat sequence. The only way to understand that somebody is replying to a specific message seem to be relying on the "quote" button.
I'm wondering if it's possible to have a threaded view with hierarchy, like in /. comments (http://games.slashdot.org/story/12/05/03/1939241/bethesda-announces-elder-scrolls-mmo#comments for example). Is this a config option or is anybody working on this?

If you want to do that, the database needs to be changed a bit. At this moment there is no way to which comment a reply was made

i thought there was a plugin that enables threaded discussion...
yep, here it is: http://vanillaforums.org/addon/replyto-plugin
I've never used it... so i give no guarantee. but it does modify the table structure to capture the threaded nature of replies

I thought I read about the reply-to plugin earlier today. Oh, here it is in another thread

But actually, the reply-to plugin is pretty good and works in 2.18.0.4.
I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.
Is replyTo a good plugin for forums? I mean will my users love it or it will be just a burden.
Experienced people with forums for years please reply.

It depends on the forum, but in general threaded views are bad.
It creates a clutter and mess. it makes discussions very disjointed, because you lot to replies to sequential comments, and that separates them, when the comment themselves can be frivolous. Also there can be a tendency to always reply to some comment regardless of whether it is related.
It doesn't really relate to real life conversation, which are not channelled into one way paths. This is also the flaw with email.
What is best is like on stack overflow where it is limited, in format and tier, etc.
grep is your friend.
Thanks @x00. I decide not to use it.

I never bought this argument: conversations in real life are synchronous while discussions online are asynchronous. They're totally different paradigms, you can't justify one with the other.
I agree: so far this is one of the best implementations out there.
