You don't begin with search the forums? So you didn't search the forums?
Did you search the /docs site? Did you search the VanillaWiki site?

Are you able to read the comments? and understand them? maybe you should wait till you read from your pc, and read signatures.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

I guess in all your exuberance, you decided not to read any announcements, documentation, wiki, comments, forum search and went straight for the code and a few questions - nice.
kind of like driving a car without knowing where the brake pedal is, eh?

well now you know where the wiki is. no one's stopping you from asking. ask away, but be considerate of other people's time if the answer is already there in the wiki, the documentation, or in the Announcement.

found the wiki page and read the doc. The forum is great when it can help each other to understand and not just say "go ahead and read it your self". Bad joke aint it? Haha

@thetryr If you combine this article http://vanillaforums.org/docs/themequickstart with this little trick http://vanillaforums.com/blog/news/vanillaforums-upgrades-theme-hooks/ you should have a solid foundation for doing some advanced theming.

And of course don't forget the Vanilla Wiki:

@thetryr you do not have to stop asking, every user can ask anything. We just hope that you take the initiative of searching first, before you ask a question. Kind of like the weekly 'when is the badges plugin coming to the free Vanilla version' topic.
What you said was : I know there's a Wiki, I know there's documentation in the /docs site, but can you guys please tell me about advanced themeing?

Personally I'm a tiny teeny bit disappointed that you didn't know the Url of the Wiki site... It's in my signature and there's an announcement at the top of the topics list about our documentation. I had wished you read that first before. Just a wish, nothing special.

I hope the themequickstart and the VanillaWiki documentation will help you with your advanced themeing. If not, ask away or adjust the VanillaWiki docs if you find things out. VanillaWiki is for everyone.
