How to show emoticons in Private Messages, Activity feed, Profile text as well?

I was wondering how it is possible to show the emoticons wherever they are inserted? whether it is in a private message, the activity feed or some profile text. at the moment they only show in discussions

    thanks for the suggestion - it won't work for us, because we are using our own set of graphical smilies .. they are quite different from the regular emoticons you can find and make an important part of our community

    only some emoticons show most of the smiley's about 80% don't work. i've looked at the dir all seem ok. any ideas?
