Does the Wordpress widget only work with paid forums?

Hi, does the Wordpress widget only work with paid forums? I've just tried using it with my own hosted forum but get the error, "Couldn't find a Vanilla Forum at this url :/"

Thanks for your help!

  • Hi, the "Vanilla Forums" plugin/widget for Wordpress. Thanks.

  • According to the wordpress site , its open src

  • Hmm, that's what I thought...I wonder why the url is invalid then.

  • No idea from the AMOUNT of info you have shared.

  • Well, that's about it...installed the forum, set it up, installed the plugin on WordPress and then attempted to set that up there, which requires the forum url - then after putting in the url, I get an error. The url being http://lakerholicz.com/forums

  • Sounds like a configuration issue, not a code issue..

You should try to get more debugging specifics. We are always willing to help but this is too vague to diagnose.
    go lakers.

  • Thanks for the reply. I would give more info but I'm not sure what else to give because it seems like a simple setup with not too many steps, which I have followed.

It says in the plugin FAQ that you get the plugin from the "embed vanilla" page - that just links to Wordpress download site, though. Is that right? I'm just wondering if you're meant to be able to download a unique plugin of some sort for your Vanilla site, otherwise couldn't anyone embed your forum into their Wordpress site?

    Thanks!

  • if the forum is private or it doesn't have a means to reach i.e. curl it won't detect.

    grep is your friend.

  • Thanks. The forum isn't private and the url to it is http://lakerholicz.com/forums/ - I've checked everything numerous times but I'm puzzled!

  • Can anyone embed someone else's forum into their site, then?

Just doubled checked with hosting RE: curl and they said it's enabled.

  • Have you enabled the embed plugin on Vanilla?

Add Pages to Vanilla with the Basic Pages app

Hi, yes it is activated on Vanilla. Thanks.

  • Okay, I just disabled the plugin on Vanilla and enabled it again and that did it! Weird. But at least it's working now :) thanks for prompting me to head over there.

Thanks! It didn't embed at first but I just added the embed code from the Vanilla embed page into the WordPress embed page if that makes sense...I don't think it should make any difference though.
