How good is vanilla getting indexed in search engines compared to vb?

Trying to find busy vanilla sites seems rather difficult. Even here on this main vanilla forum are not many people online compared to other forum sites like vb or xenforo.

I am wondering how good google indexes vanilla forum threads.

Maybe I just checked that site on the wrong part of the day, but around 100 online users does not seem a whole lot of traffic to me. ^^

  • Your question would be quite subjective wouldn't it? What is your criteria for 'good'?

    Here's a start for your exploration: http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=site:http://community.allhiphop.com/&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

  • Getting indexed is one part but getting a good google ranking is a little more difficult. When searching for the keyword 'hiphop', the first 10 Google search result pages do not show the mentioned website.

  • @joe_ekine,
Vanilla forum has decent url structures, and is well crawled by google. There are plugins to customize your title, and meta fields. And with categories and tagging, you get a lot of internal links.
As you just said, there is more to ranking than than just on-page SEO. No framework in the world will guarantee you a listing on first page of Google. It would be stupid to even ask for that. All you can ask is whether the software follows the on-page SEO best practices, which Vanilla mostly does.
