i overwrote the .png and it still seems to show the vanilla logo
The favicon usually resides in your CUSTOM theme folder..
Like so < link rel=" shortcut icon" href=" /sample/themes/myNewTheme/design/favicon.png" type="image/x-icon" />
To create a new one, just make one, and upload to your custom theme / design folder
It can be ico or png even animated gif for firefox.
