Issue with enabling Latex

I installed the plugin, and when I clicked enable, it popped up with this message:
"Fatal error: Call-time pass-by-reference has been removed in /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/vanilla/plugins/LaTeX/default.php on line 51"
Can you point me in the right direction about this?

Replace variables showing &$Sender with $Sender when its inside functions, look on line 51 (and other lines).
