i got this recommendation from pingdom.com and page speed. Any tips on how to remove this query string?

mostly likely they think it is dynamic content it isn't, it causal just the version number, it also won't prevent caching, which is another common concern.
Just generic advice.
Ignore their advice, there is no reason to do it.
grep is your friend.
