spam link in profile page

Hi, i recently was attacked by some spam, they used to signup and put a link on the top of the content
(activity, discussion,comment above) of their profile page. so how do they do it? and is there any security risk?

Are you using the AboutMe plugin or something that extends the user profile? What version of vanilla?
