Installation and Validation of Vanilla Forums in Wordpress

Have installed the plugin via WordPress plugins. Plugin is activated.
When I go to Vanilla Admin to Vanilla Forums Setup to validate the application, http://mydomain.com/forums and http://www.mydomain.com and http://mydomain.com/wp-content/plugins/vanilla-forums I am receiving the error message Couldn't find a Vanilla Forum at this url 
I have searched for a solution and found several instances where this problem is occurring but no solutions.
Your assistance in resolving this problem is greatly appreciated.
