My Forum is 2.0... and i want to update to 2.1, with my data.
The only thing I habe found is that: http://vanillaforums.org/docs/installation-upgrade

That does not help.

    First off read this

    Ok where is the backup-button?

that would be located in vanilla's sister application - it is called phpmyadmin.

anybody maintaining a forum should learn the fundamentals of exporting and importing databases.

thirdly - I don't know if there is a seamless update to 2.1. As far as I know it hasn't been released. If you aren't pretty familiar with databases and vanilla, I would wait until it is released.

and try searching the forum for upgrade and backup. Reading and searching for other discussions sometimes gives the information you need.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

Navigate to the page in your forum that updates your database: www.yourforum.com/utility/update (or www.yourforum.com/index.php?p=/utility/update)

@kasperisager - do you know if the above works correctly now in 2.1 As far as transitioning from 2.0 database to 2.1

Early on - I found it did not work for me. But haven't tried it since.
I just created a new test database.
