Can't change category

The users on my forum can no longer select the category that they wish to post in. This happened all of a sudden, and I'm not really sure why. No permissions had been changed, nor had any plugins been added in weeks. Any idea what is happening or how I can fix it?

    Could you perhaps be a bit more specific? What's preventing the users from selecting a category? Is the category selector greyed out? Is it missing? Are the categories gone?
