2.1 issue with social plugins

I am unable to create replies to posts. I can create new posts, but not replies. Unless I change
$Configuration['Garden']['RewriteUrls'] to TRUE. However, when I change rewriteurl's to true, I can no longer use the facebook or twitter social plugins for integration. They automatically disable and don't turn on if rewriteurl's is true.
I checked my htaccess and everything appears alright. Does anyone know what my issue may be?
