1and1 hosting

anyone know if 1and1 hosting packages are any good? i have a vps of my own but wanted to check them out since they are so cheap.

    I've got two domains on 1and1. Don't expect any customer service. Every three months or so they try to upsell you to a higher cost hosting package, via a 'newsletter' or snail mail. You have putty access, wildcard emails, FTP etc. Don't know about reliability, but sometimes their shared hosting can be slow. No cPanel or such. Working through their admin interfaces is very fustrating because of the piss poor UI and slow response times. I honestly don't think I would pay for the service. (I signed up for the three years free offer they had years back...)

    yeah i did the three years free as well, but i thought maybe it had gotten better.

    i have a shared account with them running vanilla and wordpress and have only had minor problems... though it's just my personal site so i'm not too worried about reliability.
