No permalinks for categories and discussions

I'm experimenting with Vanilla on an offline installation. I embedded the forum in an offline Wordpress installation, so the forum can now be accessed at page siteurl/forum. With respect to the default page created by the embed plugin I only change the template.
However, I'm noticing a strange behavior. Every forum page (e.g. single discussions) has the same url, that is siteurl/forum.
I can't see any option regarding permalinks, so I don't know what to change.
