DiscussionColourChange - A coding checkup needed

Basically, i've just started to make my own extension for Vanilla1 and i'm not to sure that i've done the right thing, so i'm asking if someone could have a look at it before i even start to test it. It's definitely not finished but i believe that the fundementals of it is finished, and it's the classes that i'm kinda worried about...

    What should this extension do, i've installed it and nothing happened

    Looking at the code, it seems it creates a CSS file that is supposed to color topics on the discussion grid based on their category. Not quite sure why an extension is needed to do this since it can be done just with the custom CSS.

    Yea, well, i've seen that's it's not working so i'm going to have to look into this...

    to answer the last question, i'm wanting to make it an extension because it's easier to use with making a theme and changing the colours quickly
