Still no indication...

edited May 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
I see there's still no indication on the Categories view whether a post has been added to X forum or not, I posted about this a while ago, and I remember it'd be implemented into v1.. has it been forgotten about?

Just because you requested it doesn't mean it will be done. I considered it and decided to hold off on new features. I'm not fond of categories and I've even considered removing them entirely in the past.
  • Oh mark, please don't take categories or at least make it and admin option or something if you wanted to.
  • If he removed them they'd still be an addon fo sho.

I reckon remove them and just make them an addon. I don't even use them at all and I just think they are pointless personally. I'd rather tags myself. Have a tag cloud too.
  • Standard tag clouds are sooo hard to read. I only see the biggest ones.
  • categories are important in vanilla (at least the way i run it) as long as there's no way to mark each thread viewable by only certain roles and no multi-whisper. wthout categories, what do you do if you want to make an "admins-only" thread?
  • Categories are to forums like tags are to blogs (well, they are now). Anyway, I'm willing to bet that if he cut out categories into an extension, the same thing which happened with whispers might happen again. Whispers get rolled out, and as a result, some things get slower, then adding them back puts speed back into it. While I want to say that it's worth exploring, for now, I would say keep it as an extension. Tags might work well though, but again, as an extension :D
