File Upload problem

Hello,
I have installed a Vanilla forum and am encountering now a problem with the File Upload function. When I try to upload images in a discussion, the images are uploaded and preview images are created but these always have a size of 0 byte and are not displayed. Same thing happens when I try to apply the plugin PIUpload.
Does someone have an idea what I can do to fix this?
