Restoring website, copying and pasting files?

Hi,
So my previous server was shutdown but I have all the files.
If I copy and paste everything from the vanilla folder that I have onto my new server --> will everything run properly?
If not how do I do this?
Many Thanks.

The key question is: do you have your database?

The Vanilla folder files only affect the look of your forum.

The content is stored in the database.

where are these files stored on a server?
I have everything that was on the server so if you can tell me then I will probably be able to get it.

To be honest what is more important is the look rather than the content as I had not launched it so there were no posts.

When I go to it it does not load and the title is Bonk

Search on here for how to turn Bonk into a detailed error report.

What database is your new forum connected to?

You need to edit the config.php file to point to the newdb.

You will need to delete the files in Vanilla/cache.

Sorry I don't really know much about databases.
All I know is that I had a vanilla installation on another server and have the files from all of that.
I copied and pasted the files into a new folder on my server and all it does is give a page that gives the title "Bonk" and nothing else.
Could you please explain in more detail how to deal with the issue?

Hi I edited the config to show the proper error.
This is what I get: Fatal error: Class 'Gdn' not found in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\emailsx.net\httpdocs\sf\bootstrap.php on line 47

    please advise

Each Vanilla installation needs to be linked to a mysql database.

If you just move your folders, without creating a database, or copying one over, for the forum files to link to, your forum won't work.

If you have access to Simple Scripts via your CPanel from your web host, use that to create a new installation of Vanilla.

That way you will have a Vanilla install you can edit.

    Otherwise, follow these instructions: http://vanillaforums.org/docs/installation

What is it in your old forum that you want to keep?

If it is a custom.css file, just copy that over afterwards.
