Outgoing mail problem after moving server

Hello.
I have recently moved server and I am having problems when trying to save my new outgoing email settings, it will not even accept a return to not using SMTP. I am assuming that the read/write permissions of some files are not correct, but I dont know which files I should be looking at changing.
Any help would be greatfully accepted.
