Is it possible for Email to not be unique?

I'm integrating Vanilla into another system, currently using ProxyConnect for a seamless transition for the login.

However on this other system, we allow users to have multiple usernames to one email address. Is there an existing way for Vanilla to allow this - and for Usernames to be the unique factor for login?

I'm using version 2.0.18.4

  • you can login with a username or an e-mail currently. I can't answer what impact changing the validation of uniques e-mail would have though.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

  • There is technically an option to do this, but when you are using SSO, it doesn’t make much sense. Email is the primary verifier of accounts, and tend to link account with SSO.

Unless you are using something else like SMS service to verify, which is still quite rare, but probably see it more often as email is trusted less.

Anyway you would have to try and adapt if necessary.
