Vanilla 1 beta now, repercussions?

edited June 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
So if I go ahead with the latest beta version of Vanilla now, how badly am I screwing myself? I read the Swell blog, is installation bugs the only major problem? Or will their be "features" missing? I have a site I'm preparing to launching and integrating vanilla with addons and a theme change is the only thing left to do.

There are about five minor bugs left in the system in Subversion. I've been letting the bugs gather and then work them out when I get a chance on the weekend. There still are some install bugs as you mentioned, but for 90% of people the install will go smoothly. I won't be adding any features before version 1 - only bug fixes. If the hosting situation was resolved, I'd have released it already despite the minor bugs. I'd say go ahead and do it.

When the final version is released, will updating to it be a problem if I have add-ons and a new theme in place? (edit: to, you know, be safe just in case any bugs would effect the pre offical release?)

Hmm. Well, there have been some minor modifications made to the default theme. Mostly they are the adding of delegates, which means that without those templates, some addons might not work for your theme.

Basically you'd just be overwriting all files except your conf folder and your custom theme folder. It *should* work out of the box. I'm 99% sure there won't be any more database changes.
  • Have you got a list anywhere with the bugs so people can attempt to fix them?
  • After Vanilla, Swell, etc, how about the next greatest bug tracker/roadmap manager, Mark? :)
  • Even better, he can create an app to keep track of all the software projects he still needs to start.
  • Then another to keep track of keeping track of the software projects he needs to start. Another project to build an advanced neural network to monitor projects he hasn't thought of yet, followed by Vanilla 2.0
  • where can we download the beta of vanilla?
  • here ya go: http://lussumo.com/download.php?Get=Vanilla.1.pre-release
  • I was in the process of trying to read how to install svn on mac osx when I decided to check this thread again. *sniff* I love you guys.
  • I still cant get the install to work, so im guessing the IIS part is what is causing me all of the troubles...:(
  • I had trouble with it too, specifically with getting the permissions right. Its on apache here, so changing the permissions until I got it right was no big deal. On iis, I would guess you need to play around with giving it write and execute permissions. (or just don't use IIS, Yuck!) Oh, once I got the permissions right, setup was a breeze.
