candy & useful functions help

Hi all, Newbie here...

I am having problems installing Candy. I have useful functions installed but am not sure of any changes i need to make in order for Candy to work....
So I installed and activated useful tools 1st then copied Candy to the app folder and tried to activate. Got this message :

Fatal error: Call to undefined method Gdn_ApplicationManager::GetApplicationInfo() in /path/to/bump2born/applications/candy/settings/structure.php on line 121

Are there any changes i need to make to either Candy or Useful functions in order for Candy to work? I have searched the vanilla community and can not see anyone with the same line 121 error.
I also had a similar error when trying to install Vanilla CMS....

I am not so hot with php so i tend to copy others examples if required changes are made. I have never compiled my own code

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

    Just to add:

    I have version 2.0.18.8 installed VIA simplescripts.
