Accessibility

edited June 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
First off, many kudos for making such a great message board. I've recently installed Vanilla and really like the standards-based focus on the markup generated. I would like to repair some of the markup to enhance accessibility - i.e. labelling form elements, etc. - and have this (hopefully) included in future distributions. What's the process for such contributions? Thanks

  • Which version are you using? There was a *massive* xhtml/css overhaul after a certain revision of 0.9.3 which (as far as i'm aware) makes it about as neat tidy and standards compliant as it's gonna get ( i dont understand any of it, personally, but people say it's good). If you're using 0.9.2.6 then yeah the markup isnt quite as neat.

If you are using 0.9.3 after the overhaul and you still have suggestions i'm sure people would be willing to consider them.
  • 0.9.2.6 I downloaded it yesterday, how do I have an old version?
  • you have the latest stable release. v0.9.3 is available by svn or prerelease link (search) but is still beta form. Expect an official v1 release in the very near future.
  • I was going to inlclude this in a theme, as an 'exclusive feature' but I will instead suggest it out loud, since I still have not finished my style or my extension, and I should get back to those first. http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/types.html#type-links The link types for Start, Prev and Next are obvious choices for thread and grid paging, Contents can link to the discussions grid, and Section or Subsection can link to the thread's category.
