Hi,
I cant seem to get the Vanilla Porter to work. FYI, i am running an SMF forum in my group based on this URL structure - www.mygroup.com/forum. As the manual says in http://vanillaforums.org/docs/installation-importtool, I uploaded the file vanilla2export.php in my forum directory which is /forum. Upon loading it, it shows error (see attachment).

Need advice

  • I deleted a sortof duplicate post. Let's focus in this thread...
I would backup the SMF files and database and set it up locally on your computer.

That error message either has something to do with rights or that file isn't uploaded properly.
Does (did) the host install things (SMF) for you?

  • server error aren't anything to do with the porter. It isn't to do with url structure.

The porter has to the able to be run.

Btw the doc might be confusing, If you want to use the web interface then it simply has to be able to run on the web server. It doesn't have to be the forum directory, if the forum directly even exists physically.

The porter can also be run command line style. it doesn’t care where the the forum is, only it must connect to the database, it only cares about the database.

    grep is your friend.

  • I'm closing this topic, since he's necroposting an old topic for his problems...
