Spam-fighting in Vanilla

edited July 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hi there, are there any tools for preventing spam from being posted in a vanilla forum? I see a variety of tools for blogging packages like Wordpress (Akismet, Bad-behavior, Spam Karma), and while I'm sure these could be adapted for Vanilla, I'm curious if there are any tools that are already in use? Thanks! -david

  • Aye, the spam protection consists of a max character length on posts, as well as timeouts for maximum number of posts or comments allowed per number of seconds. I would consider this more as an automated flooding protection, nothing quite as fancy as bayesian filtering, but that could concievably be rather simple to implement as an extension, assuming you already had the bayesian part down.
  • Yeah, an Bayes/IP blacklist extension would be awesome.

  • Why damn that site looks sexy... and it looks a lot like mine! You theiving bastard! I WILL HAX YOU! QUICK, SOMEONE HELP ME HACK 172.0.0.1!
  • 127, lech, 127. And yeah, a spam extension could come in handy from time to time.
  • This begs the question: Has anyone (yet) had an issue with spamming of Vanilla? /me haxes around to make a post while DNS issues abound.
  • A spam filter which can do a seach and replace, before inserting posts into the database would be cool.

Perhaps I will write one lol.
