Email notification for announcements or specific forums?

in Vanilla 2.0 - 2.8

Running Vanilla 2.0.18.8

Is it possible for forum members to receive email notifications for all new discussions either:

a) in a specific category

or

b) discussions that have been tagged as an announcement?

I have googled and searched this forum but the only thing I've seen that comes close is a plugin that hasn't been developed for about 2 or 3 years.

    Specific category notifications have been added in Vanilla 2.1+ and can be found in a user's profile preferences page, which is currently in beta and available for download if you would like to try it out.

    Thanks for the reply. If it's in beta I'm happy to know that it's on the horizon. Although looking at the beta 2 release thread stickied in the forums it appears that final stable release of 2.1 might be a long way away yet.

    I'll do a test upgrade of my site to 2.1b2 and see how it works.
