Vanilla is designed to be very flexible, but it will mean getting your hands a little 'dirty'.
I don't know of a drag and drop image solution, though someone else may do.
The recommended way to modify your Vanilla install is to have a custom theme.
This can either be one you download from the Addons section of this site, or one you create yourself from scratch.
If you are an absolute beginner to CSS, you might want to download a 'practice' theme I create called Annotated CSS. (Here: http://vanillaforums.org/addon/annotated_css-theme )
This is not a theme designed to be used out of the box, but one that has most of the common CSS rules annotated to explain what they affect.
If you did a mock-up of where you want to add pictures, it would be easier to suggest the most effective way of achieving that.
Have patience and fun!

If you want specific help, you need to ask specific questions.
Your question as it stands is so open as to be almost unanswerable.
If you have further questions, a specific thread title will probably get you a quicker and more direct response.
Hi Sorry, Im looking at trying to add more colour to my opening page.
Im not very good with computers and know the basics, i thought to add more pictures on the opening page instead of just the single image i have now. i used to have blocks or drop and drag on another site, just wondring if i can achieve this on this site..thanks
