SMTP Test Function

we have a few dedicated mail servers so getting external hosts to play with them can be a challenge. i also see a lot of smtp issue threads.

i would like to suggest the ability to send a test message function/button in the outgoing mail section. i think it would help people track down errors rather quickly. maybe even verbose output of any mail errors but that's debatable.

do you mean testing if vanilla sends the message or the response from the mail server.

you can use fakemail to see what is actually sent out to modify parameters or welcome and other mail related definitions

no that is not what i mean but thank you for your reply.

a simple button that says something like "send test message" on the mail config page and uses the same function used to send notifications would be perfectly fine.

@gtron You can try the Contact plugin to test your smtp and send yourself a mail message.
