Disable Activity

How can I disable the activity functionality? I'm using 2.1

I've found: $Configuration['Garden']['Profile']['ShowActivities'] = FALSE;

But it only applies to the profile. I want it completely removed.

That will disable the creation of activity items completely, then you will have to modify your templates so that the Activities section is not displayed anymore.
