"Want to take part in these discussions?"

I just installed Vanilla. I haven't changed any settings or used any Add-ons. When I first came to this forum, the menu on the left had a little message saying "Want to take part in these discussions? ..." with a link to sign up. Mine doesn't have that. The menu is just blank. So a new user would have to find the "Sign In" link in the top right and then click "Apply for membership." That's no good. So... how do I get that nice message asking users to sign up? http://www.pollverize.com/forum/ is my forum, if that helps answer my question.

Any features that aren't in the core are always in the addon repository or available by someone here. A quick search of the addon repos would have gotten you what you wanted.
  • thanks for the help. sorry for not looking for an add-on first. i figured something like that would be a standard feature.

Contrary to my other comments about how add ons shouldn't be included with Vanilla, this is the one that I feel maybe should, I can't see any forum not wanting to use it :-)

    # Aardvark Freak - any chance you'll be making a Pollverise extension for the forum? Trying to implement it onto my Vanilla install atm (just posting a simpe poll in a discussion) without any luck :(
  • blizeH: i doubt that vanilla will allow you to post javascript, so that probably won't work by default. i suppose i could make an extension that would give an exemption to javascript from pollverize.com. i'd have to look into how to make vanilla extensions though, i'm a vanilla newb. and i also can't see any forum not wanting to have a nice welcome message for unregistered users.

A private forum wouldn't want that message.
  • i would assume that there are many, many more public forums than private forums. so then you should make private forums turn it off. but, i guess no one would know the demographics better than you, so i'm sure you have thought this through already.

Nah I think Mark's right, plus it's good to encourage people to visit the add-ons page anywhere incase there are some other items they'd like to install :)
