Deleting comments....

With the new Vanilla there isn't anyway that I can see on how to delete comments. Maybe there should be anextension for admins to delete comments. I am using Vanilla ina way where I need to clear out comments. Jonah P.s. I tried to hide them but I would like to delete them.

    For the record, it also worked that way with the old version of Vanilla. There has been talk of creating an extension that turns all of the hide buttons into delete buttons (and actually deletes - it's not just a dictionary change). As far as I know, no-one has done it yet. I'd do it, but I'm hard at work on a new theme as promised for Minisweeper.

    agreed, this would be a handy feature - same for discussions as a whole!

    I would also like to see this feature. Maybe if Mark or one of the more advanced developers could point some of you in the right direction, you'd be able to easily create this extension.

    I just looked into this one a bit more. It's more complicated than I had anticipated simply because when you remove a comment from a discussion it needs to update various other records in the database. It can still be done, though. It just might be better left to a higher-level developer. I think I'm going to add a delegate to the source to make things easier.

    Okay, it won't be available until the next release of course, but the required delegates are now in there. You should be able to create the extension to perform the deletes with about 30 lines of code, now.

    excuse me Mark, i understand the reasons for not deleting: does your newly installed delegates and higher-level developing indicate that comment-deleting is now part of the Vanilla core or that an extension has been developed ?
