Announce a discussion means what??

I have a category say cat1. In this category i have two discussions. I put Announce option for first discussion. In forum page it disappear.And the discussion which is not announced is only visible. What is mean by announce a discussion?

Simply put, it marks that discussion as an "Announcement".

but why the announced discussion disappear.All other discussions are visible.
NB: i am using a custom theme, i think it may becoz of the theme .
Ya in Embed-Friendly theme it works. so the problem is the theme.
