Editing Roles

edited July 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
I was wondering why you can't set category access when editing roles. Right now you can specify which categories a role should have access to when you create it, but once it's created you can't edit that part anymore. Why is that?

I wanted the category rules to be applied in one place instead of two.

I considered moving the permissions back to the role and even did it briefly in development, but then the categories were confusing and frustrating. It was a lot nicer to pick a category and then uncheck (or check) all of the roles you wanted to edit rather than go into each role individually and remove (or apply) it's access.
  • Ah, I see. Perhaps it would be good to add a little note on the role creation page. Something like:
Select the categories this role should have access to
If you want to change the categories this role should have access to at a later point, you can do it on the Categories editing page.

Are these two possibilities not eventually the same? :)
But I agree about the litte informative text...
