Very interesting. It will be interesting to see if this has any (I doubt it) affect on 37signals.
  • are you kidding? those guys are GODS! ain't nothing gonna break-a their stride.
  • You have to have PHP5. Just tried to install it and was sad to find out I don't have the required server set up :(
  • Hey, looks very similar to Sourceforge.org... :D
  • anyone know where the hell in the code it is that i can tell it where to look for php5?
  • Just installed it and it seems pretty snazzy. Works quickly and installed with no problem.

I hope it does have an affect on 37signals because I always get a snooty impression from them.

I've got PHP4 and it installed fine. Didn't throw up any errors at all.

EDIT: Sorry, I meant to edit the previous post.
  • I seem to have trouble installing... it opens the scriptinstaller, but it doesn't seem to parse the php... I have <?= bla bla ?> in my html page?

"I hope it does have an affect on 37signals because I always get a snooty impression from them." Agreed. If you email them you usually get a 5 word reply from that Jason dude.... I wish this thing looked more like Basecamp though, don't think our clients at work would like it if we suddenly switched to this after a year!
  • i have both php4 and 5, but 4 is set as default and has to remain default. anyone know where/how i tell it to look for php5?
  • Oh, guess I was mistaken about the PHP5 thang. Maybe I'm just dumb today.

Some great open source project tools, but none of them integrate together with a common member/permisssions system.

@Mark, are you planning on integrating member systems between Vanilla and Swell, etc, for example? Did a quick search and saw this is what People is for. Is there a reason it is integrated directly into Vanilla rather than being a module that can then be integrated with other systems (Vanilla, Swell, other independent systems?) - or am I missing the point?

    thnks, mlh

Maybe it'll be skinnable in future versions?
  • Maybe maybe... it doesn't quite seem to be a clone to me... clone says "exact copy" to me, which this doesn't seem to be!
  • It seems to be very promising! Basecamp is great even if it isn't free, but I prefer a local script than relying on my ISP and 37s servers ... I had to use PHP5 within the directory and it works fine but is "AddType x-mapp-php5 .php" in a local .htaccess the best way to do it?
  • Someone remind me to check this out sometime. mattbrighton, what do you mean by "Is there a reason it is integrated directly into Vanilla rather than being a module that can then be integrated with other systems"? People is integrated directly into vanilla and packaged with it so vanilla has a user management capability, but it works just as well on its own. If you check out the people folder under library (i assume that's where it's still kept) you'll notice there are a ton of useable classes there :)
  • hmm, looks good, could use it for organising the backend development of my site

Cool, why is their website down? Where do I download it? Tried to click on the zip file from their website but it didn't work.
