Managing a forum advice for total blockhead

apologies in advance. some of this stuff really confuses me. i'm looking at how to manage access and privacy and all that and vanilla seems pretty powerful and easy to configure. am i right or wrong? it's not hard to keep a part of public forum totally private, right? i was thinking i could just run two forums, but then i thought maybe it's not hard to do. but i got seriously and needlessly confused by smtp, so i don't know if i can figure this out. thanks, evan

you can set certain categories to be visible only to certain member types.
