creating multiple categories and discussions at once

Hello.

I'm trying to use Vanilla forums as courseware (to teach a course). I need to create multiple categories with pre-defined discussions. I know I can do this one by one, but I'm hoping there is a way to automate the process and batch create them, since there are a lot of them.

For example, I have various readings, and want to create discussions for various teams, like this:

Reading 1 Title (category)
Team 1 (discussion)
Team 2 (discussion)
Team 3 (discussion)
...
Team 12 (discussion)

Reading 2 Title (category)
Team 1 (discussion)
Team 2 (discussion)
Team 3 (discussion)
...
Team 12 (discussion)

etc.

Is there an addon that would allow me to just supply the directory structure like the one above and generate the categories/discussions accordingly? Can this be done through the API? Any ideas?
