Discussions disappeared after upgrading to 2.1.5

Hi,

I just upgraded Vanilla Forums form 2.0.18 to 2.1.5, following these instructions: http://vanillaforums.org/docs/installation-upgrade

After upgrading, the forum showed me a blank screen. I checked these forums and followed instructions including adding debugging flags to config, but nothing worked and I kept seeing the white screen even after more than 20 reloads.

I then backed up my database and tried a clean install. After successfully installing vanilla 2.1.5 from scratch, I then imported my old database.

Now it all seems to work, but all the discussions are gone.

I know it was a very unorthodox approach, and I'm sure many things might need a cleanup or an update, but it was the only way I found to get it upgraded.

Anyone have an idea on what I can do?

Here's my community site: http://minishowcase.net/community/index.php?p=/discussions

    • Clear *.ini files from the cache folder.

    • run /utility/structure

    • use phpmyadmin and see if your discussion table has any entries.

    • report back if you do see discussions in the discussion table

    • and categories in the category table

    • check your permissions for each role.

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

Thanks @peregrine for the quick reply, and for pointing me back to the phpmyadmin. Seems I had imported a bogus export with most of my discussions gone, so importing a good backup and going through your steps solved it.

I'm so glad I'm back to vanilla from bbpress, this community is great and vanilla surely rocks.
