Maximum profile picture size

A user tried to upload his profile picture and was told it was too big by 1kb.

Is there a maximum size and, if so, how do I make it larger?

    Avatars are limited to 2MB in size I believe by default.

    there is really no need for an avatar larger then 2mb in size. and you probably don't want avatar files larger than this anyways.

    the user can rescale it via any image editor to make avatar smaller.
