Invisionfree --> Vanilla

edited July 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
This probably is a big stretch since it's not self hosted but is there any way to import from Invisionfree to vanilla?

Comments

  • if you know the database creation and dump structure, it should be possible.
  • My understanding of how Invisionfree works is that you don't have access to any parts of the database, so it probably won't work!
Unless they offer some sort of service to let you have the database?
  • You could write a bot program that goes through, harvesting all posts and putting them into Vanilla... although you'd probably get IP banned.
  • your probably right, I've heard Invisionfree are really quite strict!
  • Is there some way to backup to a text file?
  • Not to sure, I used to use Invisionfree (years ago!) but never really had to think about converting it to anything. Why not try looking at this link, it might provide some useful info on how to contact them! (Dunno how helpful they'll be, knowing your moving to another forum!)

  • Thanks everyone :) I sent them a support ticket and I will post what they respond with.
  • Great! Don't expect a quick response though!

Ok, it appears it is possible to get a dump of the database but they say we have to pay :/

    Here is the exact reply:

    -------------------------------------------------------

If you would prefer a raw dump of your forum's database, you need to purchase a Conversion, which will provide you with your forum's database in IPB 1.3 format. You could then convert this database to other formats. Follow the link for pricing. Import instructions that include a link to the data will be posted in this ticket after your conversion has been performed.

After purchasing a Conversion, if you'd like the database to be installed on your IPB 1.3 for you, InvisionFree can perform a Transfer, in which we restore the database to your new hosted board. The Transfer link shows pricing for this service.

Any purchases are subject to the Terms of Sale.
  • Doesn't seem too terribly expensive.
  • Nah, its not that bad is it. (I see they've changed their name to Zetaboards, compare that to sexy old Vanilla!)
