Best CURRENT way to add Google Custom Search Engine in Vanilla 2.1?
I've been searching through posts here about how to replace the built-in search function with a Google CSE, but it's hard to find recent posts relating to doing this in Vanilla 2.1.
Is using the Vanoogle plugin still the best way to do this? The last release of that was 2013, and not sure if it's fine with 2.1 or just 2.0:

The most current comment I've found about Google CSE integration is from @peregrine here:

I'm really surprised there isn't already some sort of plugin that will do this.
Thanks!

you could check here, or try plugin yourself.

see the spreadsheet add to it. etc. you could also ask ddumont to incorporate changes if any suggested in spreadsheelt or within the link above.
as far as best way - don't have an answer. I would think the plugin by ddumont has more features available,
I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.
Thx, Peregrine. I tried it out, and the plugin seems to work! I've added my handle to the spreadsheet in the Vanoogle column.
It doesn't handle the CSE exactly how I want (yet), but I'll continue to tinker with it and hopefully end up where I'd like to be.
Thanks again!
I don't know how much it differs from peregrines solution, but this is the integration I use:
